Fergus County Judicial Branch (District Courts, Clerk, Limited Jurisdiction Court)

Fergus County Judicial Branch is 10th Judicial District. District Courts are responsible for many criminal and civil cases, such as contract disputes, personal injury claims, real property disputes, dissolution of marriage, parenting plans, mental health commitments, wills and estates, juveniles and felony crimes. The District Court also hears appeals from Justice or City Court decisions. District Court decisions can be appealed to the Montana Supreme Court.

Fergus County Clerk of District Court

The Clerk of District Court provides the public with access to the records of District Court cases including: felony criminal cases, probate and guardianship proceedings, divorce and custody cases, and other kinds of civil cases. The Clerk of District Court is responsible for setting the schedule for district court hearings. The Clerk of District Court also issues and records marriage licenses.

Fergus County (Lewistown) Justice Court Court of Limited Jurisdiction

Justice Courts decide limited kinds of civil and criminal cases, such as contract disputes, personal injury claims, protective orders, traffic violations, property rights disputes with damages less than $7,000, small claims cases with damages less than $3,000, and many kinds of misdemeanor crimes. Justice Court decisions can be appealed to District Court.
