Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 08/24/10
Offerings Sold: 33,459 Year Ago: 48,471
Demand good to very good for all classes with active buyers participation as we
observed active bidding from all avenues. Offerings included numerous load lots,
partial loads and split lots of weaned and unweaned calves plus many offerings of
yearling steers and heifers. The majority of weaned calves were for November
through February 2011 deliveries. The Value Added comment denotes cattle that meet
all three elements: both spring and fall preconditioning shots, are age and source
verified with a third-party analysis and qualify for all natural. Prices FOB bases
on net weights after slide and pencil shrink. Slide over base weight of 5 to 10
cents on calves, 4 to 8 cents on yearlings. Weighing conditions ranging from
straight to 3 percent pencil shrink. Supply includes approximately 55 percent
steers and 45 percent heifers with 42 percent over 600 lbs. Approximately 2
percent sold for a current 14 day delivery window. Deliveries current through Mar
2011.
