Fergus/Petroleum County 4-H Leaders Council Meeting

                                                April 20, 2006

 

President June Krausz called the meeting to order.

The Winifred Mustangs were the hosts.  There were seven people in attendance.

 

Minutes were approved.  (Kaylene Patten, Laura Boyce)

Treasurer’s report was approved.  (Laura B. / Mary Lou Stulc) 

 

Announcements: 

Fair Entries will be in club boxes May 1, no entries after June 15;

grace period is June 2-15, $5 fee per person.

Camp registration papers are in the newsletter.

Shooting Sports Leaders’ Training next weekend.  Four from Fergus County will be attending. 

 

Jennifer Saunders gave the committee reports.

 

Livestock Committee- Final preparations are being made to purchase the sound system.  Insurance for slaughter animals was discussed.  The livestock camp will be at Gardner’s at Winnett, June 6th and 7th.  Tim Gilskey is checking with HCR and CMP about painting and powder coating the fair livestock panels.  Scott Damby is in charge of arranging the carcassing of lambs.  Tim is in charge of setting up carcassing for the beef and swine.  The committee is working on a policy for the payment of the 4-H market animals purchased at the fair.  Hopefully this will encourage quicker payment in the future. 

 

Horse Committee Report- There will be open riding on Tuesdays in June at the pavilion and they are working on setting up a clinic.

 

Small Animal Committee Report- There is a judging clinic on Saturday, May 7th at Cap Stone Community Center.  There will be a showmanship workshop May 28th.

 

Miscellaneous Committee had another “Super Saturday”, attendance was low though.

 

FCS Committee- The Fashion Revue will be at New Horizons on April 30. 

 

Food Booth Cleaning will be June 24th.  Someone from every club should be there.  There are 2 possible applicants for the Food Booth Manager position.

 

Ambassadors had another successful Traveling Farm, and are planning the Farm Safety Day scheduled for May 3.  The new Junior Ambassador is Whitney Holmes.  Congratulations, Whitney!

 

Junior Leaders had their last business meeting.  They will be cleaning Connie Melton’s yard Sunday, April 23rd.

 

Exchange group is still working on fund raising.  They will be going to New York City, Aug. 7-14.

 

State Leader’s Forum is in Missoula in October.  District Council will have their meeting during Mini-Congress in the fall.

 

Old business:

The “Farm Olympics’ Committee will be meeting soon to plan Saturday of the fair.  They are collecting all kinds of wonderful ideas. 

 

New Business

            The county owns a building which is 20’x 28’ at the airport that they are willing to rent out for storage for $80 a year.  Laura Boyce made a motion to rent this building and Mary Lou Stulc second it.  Motion passed unanimously.

 

May 8th at 9:00 a.m. is Ag. Building clean up.

           

Fair Helpers are needed.  Please call Jennifer to volunteer.  They need helpers for: setting up for pre-fair interviews, indoor judging clerks, horse show arena tear down, setting up livestock pens, and indoor exhibit watchers.

 

Next meeting will be Sept. 21,2006.
